Welcome to Fabulose
Vegan, circular leather-like fabric made from bacterial cellulose
Fabulose is a project funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). It aims to develop scalable manufacturing processes for fossil-free leather-like fabrics made from bacterial cellulose and cyanophycin.
Our mission
To create innovative, vegan and recyclable leather-like fabrics that replicate the look, feel, and durability of traditional leather – while reducing environmental impact.
Our materials
are based on bacterial cellulose and cyanophycin, produced using CO₂ emissions and food-industry side streams. Through advanced fermentation, AI-driven process optimisation, and innovative coating and finishing techniques, we deliver sustainable solutions for the future of fashion and beyond.
Fabulose delivers materials and prototype products which are:
- Free of toxic chemicals and petrol based plastics
- Bio-based, recyclable and biodegradable
- Durable and tear resistance
- Scalable to mass production with roll-to-roll process
- Competitive in pricing.
